Description
- CH04SR0403
- sediment or fill in cavity wall in S corner of room 30
- Brown soil with limestone crumb and two bones -- large cow astragaloi from two different animals, set side by side and with their long axes in a horizontal plane (flat sides of astragaloi touching, curved sides on top and bottom)
- No photos taken, no Byzantinists have been able to produce parallels in magical/traditional practice -- so always possible that this placement did occur by chance
Interpretation
-
- Fill of the hiding place
-
- AS
-
- Deposit related to local foundation ritual/tradition? No other material in this niche, and the astragaloi were too firmly placed, too level, and too carefully arranged to have been deposited by chance
