Description

  • CH05SR0560
  • Human remains
  • The remains of a human skeleton. The skeleton is situated between the tiles of the collaps of the building and the pebbled surface of the street. Under and around the skeleton there are traces of ash and charcoal, some of the bones show traces of burning. The skeleton shows that the dead person were lying on its back with the right arm raced and bend towards the face. The left arm is missing. The legs are parted and knees are bend. The bone of the left leg is broken. The skull has been crushed and is almost unregonizable. Points are taken for the context extent.
  • The left arm of the skeleton is missing, maybe this was moved in the previous excavation season when the first part of the skeleton was found.

Interpretation

    • The remains of a human, who probably already was dead when the building burned and collapsed. The position of the body seems to confess this interpretation. First of all it is lying between context #488 and #434, secondly it is lying on its back. The person most probably would not have been lying on its back, if it had died from the collaps of the building. The most naturally reaction in that case would have been to bend over and try to avoid the tiles, wood etc. falling from the building.
