Description

- Fill of pit/cut in bedrock in E corner of room 37
- The fill of a pit/cut in bedrock; soft brown soil with inclusions of pebbles; sherds of red slip ware. The fill is located under wall 693, in the E corner of the room; it was ca. 30cm deep
- According to paper sheet, some possibility that this fill may have been covered by 660, the hard yellow surface over the slabs; the fill was covered by 693, the later of the two walls in this area (but was under the line 692 would also have followed), but it was also under the foundation trench of wall 265, which might explain why the datable ceramic evidence included material from the 10th and 12th-13th centuries -- this could be contamination
Interpretation
-
- Fill was made to level the surface.

-
- The filling of this pit probably took place after the Early Byzantine occupation in the area, but is likely to have preceded the construction of wall 693 (and of wall 692?)
