Description
- CH06SR0934
- Construction of stone and mortar in cut 0913, Central Area 3, Courtyard
- Flimsy, irregular wall or screen in the shape of a P with the loop facing NW, occupying the N half of cut 913; the long side bisects the cut at roughly right angles; wall is constructed of small to medium irregular stones that appear to be mortared together, no clear faces; stones and shells found among them show evidence of high-temperature fire
Interpretation
-
- Wall meant to contain fire lit in pit in the course of industrial activities -- perhaps to insulate vessel placed in conical cut at E corner? NB: A. A. Aibabin maintains that limestone in which the pit was cut would not support high-temperature fire without degrading; but heavy clay-like fill might come from a clay lining applied to the bedrock sides of the cut
