    • This layer was only identified from the section drawing and photo of the SW side of room 38: clearly visible under the crude stairs along the inside of the SW wall of the room was a layer of reddish-gray hearth ash varying in depth from 2-3cm. It did not appear to be present elsewhere in the room, nor was it noted during excavation. It is more or less at the level of the final floor in the NE half of room 38, and below a fill about 15 cm deep under the lowest course of the stairs (also not clear from documentation where else this fill was found -- perhaps associated with construction of stairs)
