Description
- CH04SR0428
- Soak-away (?) pit in room 34/yard 2
- Circular cut in bedrock near the door between room 34 and the street, slightly under the wall of the room; appears also to cut floor surface, although circular depression could be the result of erosion into the pit; uneven unlined walls, uneven bottom with deeper, smaller cut off-center to the West; ca. 1 meter in diameter where cut begins, ca. 1.40 meter in depth
- The upper levels of this feature may have been excavated in 2002, context not yet looked up; also not clear what relation to upper level of floor was (coverd by or cut through)
Interpretation
-
- Interpretation not solid- either a soak-away pit for gray water, if limestone porous, or a failed attempt to dig a well or cistern, or (least likely) a trash pit

- ATR
-
- On the basis of the ceramic evidence recovered from the lowest deposit in this cut, it should probably be associated with 10th-11th c. activity in the area (could it also be a pit in which a pithos was set?)
