Description
- CH05SR0687
- Cut for pit in N part of room 37 (with cuttings).
- A pit/cut situated 50 cm to NW of pit 685. One half of the pit is hidden under the junction between wall 499 and wall 265. The diameter of pit is 60 cm; 40 cm in depth; the interior of the pit is divided by a bedrock ridge perpendicular to the line of the walls that bisect it
- Stones of walls 499 and 265 run into this pit -- not clear if that means it stood open when the wall was constructed, though that seems unlikely. Needs further investigation.
Interpretation
-
- It seems that pit 687 and pit 685 were made in one time. Later they were filled to level the surface. Probably pit 687 was used as posthole.

-
- The interpretation above is based on the presence of the bedrock ridge in the center of the pit (see sketch on original context sheet); it is hard, however, to explain its position. Dyma also notes that the ridge produces two depressions that recall settling pits for features that hold liquids
