  • CH05SR0700
  • Fill of cut 699 in center of larger cut in N corner of room 30
  • Brown soil with fragments of ceramics, small pieces of charcoal ca. 25x35 cm, occupies roughly rectangular patch 25cm deep (almost to bedrock)
  • One 13th c. amphora fragment from this fill (local type)

Interpretation

    • Later fill of the cut.
      • AS
    • Seems to be lower level of floor used to fill existing depression/cut in bedrock
      • ATR
    • Given the persistent presence of 13th c. material in this corner, given the presence of a posthole (?) in the opposite corner on the same side of the room, and given the apparent post-hole character of the cuts here, it is possible that this and the other cuts represent a post or support associated either with the 13th c. buildings or with the construction of those buildings (scaffolding for the wall?) -- if the intrusion were simply not noted in the upper levels (on the last floor surface were several stones in this area), it might account for the persistently odd dating of these layers
