Description
- CH06SR0783
- Soft brown loam over bedrock adjacent to wall 0692 in NW courtyard
- A soft brown loam with the dimensions of 30 cm (NW-SE) and 20 cm (NE-SW) amd 5 cm in depth. The layer was situated directly over bedrock and was void of artifacts except for a single piece of plaster. Uncertain how much of the context was missed because we did not recognize it until the majority of the originally [initially] named context 0783 was removed.
- Theoritically should be equivalent to 0715 from last season? 0783 was changed from the originally identified fill that extended from wall 296 to context 0773 [slab] to a small slice (see sketch plan) of brown soil void of ceramics and bone above bedrock. Excavator found a cigarette butt in the originally named fill, identifying it as modern backfill from last year. A profile was cut revealing an obvious break. What remained under backfill was assigned 0783.
Interpretation
-
- Small accumulation of soil over bedrock before slabs were laid.
