Description
- CH06SR0752
- Fill in north courtyard close to corner made by walls 265 and 693
- Compact dark greyish brown silty loam. Artifacts include tiles, ceramics, bones and stones. The top of the context was photoed in the NW area of the open trench, but because we [had already] excavated through most of it in the NE area [across the balk it was not included in the photo]. Context 752 does not extend all the way across the balk but is on both sides of it.Context is approximately 15-20 cm in depth [See sketch for plan] in Areas 1 and 2, but becomes thinner, less than 5 cm, in Area 3.
- Context 703 was actually 'in the corner' made by the walls 265 and 593; and context 752 abutts wall 265 and is between that [wall 265] and the well. Some modern fill (approximately 5 cm) covered this context. Context extends over the entire surface between section1 and section 2. Extended a third of the way into Area 3. Some debate on whether or not this context equals 0509.
Interpretation
-
- Possibly a surface/accumulation. In my opinion it covers 0509, but Adam believes that it may be the same layer as 0509 just without the industrial debris from metalworking activity below it (which is what gives 0509 it color and consistentcy).
