Description
- CH04SR0361
- cut for infant burial in room 28
- Irregular shallow cut into soil and possibly into bedrock in the south corner of room 28 about 10 to 15 cm deep, 15-25 cm wide, 45 cm long
- If 352 and/or 340 are excavated in this area, it is possible that the cut began higher up- but seems most likely that current phasing is correct- actually, it’s a tossup- could easily have been cut into ashy layer and not noticed at moment of excavation.
Interpretation
-
- cut for burial of fetus or neonate; possibly made during occupation of room, but more likely that made after abandonment of house, perhaps in attempt to associate baby with church.
