  • CH05SR0524
  • Black ashy soil in west section of courtyard
  • Dimensions are 52 cm N-S, 40 cm E-W, and 25 cm in depth; fine ashy soil with many pieces of slag both metal and vitreous. The context extends into the profile of the unexcavated [section of the] courtyard. Filled an irregular cut in 2 surfaces under the last courtyard surface (509).
  • Some type of metal working associated feature? Excavated to approximately 15 cm in depth; had to return to finish excavating because it wasn’t all removed on the first go around. After cleaning the profile it appears that 524 is connected/associated with context 587.
