Linked Contexts

  • Context: CH05SR_509
    • Mottled gray/dark gray ashy fine silt loam; the section for metallurgical samples was 6.8M X 4.2M. Basically from wall 49 south to tomb 3 and east to walls 31/32 (sketch on back). Small stones with medium concentration of cutural material (ceramics, tileā€¦); a couple of small patches of 7.5YR 3/1 very dark gray ash; several stoppers from courtyard and extension, apparently made from tile recovered
  • Context: CH05SR_522
    • Semi triangular black ashy soil approximately 90 cm (NW/SE) X 70 cm (NE/SW) depth approximately 8-10 cm, contains high quantity of slag/industrial debris. This context was very distinct and discrete, as close to a 'sealed' context as we experienced in the courtyard. Filled somewhat irregular cut in surface under last courtyard surface
  • Context: CH05SR_524
    • Dimensions are 52 cm N-S, 40 cm E-W, and 25 cm in depth; fine ashy soil with many pieces of slag both metal and vitreous. The context extends into the profile of the unexcavated [section of the] courtyard. Filled an irregular cut in 2 surfaces under the last courtyard surface (509).
  • Context: CH05SR_525
    • Black ashy soil with large amounts of industrial debris (metal slag). Has brown, gray, and green ashy silty inclusions [and it] also has orange and yellow clay inclusions. Original definition of context was approximately 2M (N-S) X 1M (E-W). As context was excavated its definition stretched [extended] southward another 60 cm and the area to the north was assigned [to] another context (563). Depth of context varied from approximately 30-55 cm.
  • Context: CH05SR_526
    • Dimensions are 20 X 20 cm with a depth of 25 cm. Fine ashy loam, roughly circular feature. The color of the fill was a deep red, unlike any of the other contexts that appeared after removing context 509. Filled a regular steep cut in 2 courtyard surfaces under the last courtyard surface (509)
  • Context: CH05SR_527
    • Dimensions are 21 cm N-S X 24 cm E-W and approximately 12 cm in depth; black ashy loam. Context 527 extends under large stone (Context 532) to the south. Filled irregular cut in 2 surfaces under the last courtyard surface [509]
  • Context: CH05SR_530
    • Dark gray brown ashy soil; 65 X 60 cm N-S/E-W, depth no more than 5 cm; silty with a small gravel; contained industrial debris/metal slag. Filled an irregular cut in surface under last courtyard surface
  • Context: CH05SR_531
    • Ashy patch in West corner of unexcavated portion of room 32. Soil is a black to dark-grey fine silt-loam, with metal working debris included. Irregular circle with projecting line near 2004 section. Lies in floor in front of stairs to courtyard.
  • Context: CH05SR_541
    • A 50 cm (N-S) X 25 cm (E-W) and approximately 12 cm in depth. black ashy soil that contains a lot of small pieces <1 cm of charcoal. Filled somewhat irregular cut in 2 surfaces under last courtyard surface (509).
