Description

  • CH06SR0839
  • Gray ashy soil between bedrock and cut 0601 in NW part of room 38
  • Layer of ashy soil along the bedrock cut 900. This layer was isolated to a small (approx. 20cm) area. The soil was especially rich in bones, though it also contained the standard pottery and seashells of the surrounding layers.

Interpretation

    • This is likely another fill layer in cut 900, around pit 601. This material was distinct in its texture, and the fact that it had an abundance of bones, but did not seem to carry through to any other areas contiguous with it. As there do not seem to be any use surfaces in any way connected with it, I would assume that it is a result of haphazard filling of cut 900 (a different bucket from a different trash heap).
