- CH06SR0847
- Compact brown soil in the far W side of cut 900, Room 38
- Small area of compact brown soil that appeared to be a usage surface on the far W side of cut 900. This layer was confined to the W side of pit 601 and was contiguous with context 838. It produced only small amounts of pottery, bone and tile.
- As with all of the contexts around the remainder of pit 601, the reliability of this layer, and its relationship with the rest of the fill of cut 900, is unclear. Perhaps this layer relates to a usage surface in an area of the cut still intact under wall 536.

Interpretation
-
- This context, that appeared first on the W side of pit 601, did not carry through to the other areas around the pit. The material itself and its state of preservation (and compactness) would have suggested a usage surface but this does not seem tenable because it is preserved in only this small area.
