  • CH04SR0430
  • Cut of pit in room 37
  • The cut was located in the middle of the excavated portion of room 37. Soil was darker (very dark brown grey) than surrounding matrix of SR411 and SR 426 and much looser consistentcy. The cut was approximately N-S 2.3 meters and E-W 2.5 meters
  • Recognized by loose fill and change of the colorof the soil. This was identified as Courtyard 1, but was later changed to room 37 after wall seperating the two was located.

Interpretation

    • The cut of a large pit. In my opinion, this cut was made with some kind of construction process in mind, possibly a cistern or well? However, when the large pavers located approx. 1 meter down were found, excavation stopped, the pit was filled, and a shoddy wall was built on top of it. Of course, the excavation of this pit may have been made to locate the large pavers of what may be a tomb?
