  • CH05SR0550
  • Loose brown soil in courtyard
  • A loose brown soil that extends over the majority of the excavated portion of the courtyard. This context goes all the way down to bedrock in the east portion of the courtyard. However, it becomes much more compact in this area. Color and composition stay the same, maybe a little more clayey towards the bottom. Depth of context varies form less than 5 cm to 20 cm.
  • possibly a surface? No preliminary results from Ana (i.e. datable ceramics)
  • Hellenistic ceramics

Interpretation

    • Surface that covered a majority of the courtyard, possibly one of the earliest/most intact surfaces left in the courtyard.
      • SM
    • dating of ceramic evidence, with substantial group of 13th c. pottery, suggests that this is a fill rather than a use surface -- or perhaps a use surface associated with the construction of the courtyard
